子曰:“君子之事上也,进思尽忠,退思补过,将顺其美,匡救其恶,故上下能相亲也。《》云:‘心乎爱矣,遐不谓矣,中心藏之,何日忘之。’”
The Service of the...:
The Master said, "The superior man serves his ruler in such a way that, when at court in his presence, his thought is how to discharge his loyal duty to the utmost, and when he retires from it, his thought is how to amend his errors. He carries out with deference the measures springing from his excellent qualities and rectifies him (only) to save him from what are evil. Hence, as the superior and inferior, they are able to have an affection for each other.
It is said in the Book of Poetry: In my heart I love him, And why should I not say so? In the core of my heart I keep him, And never will forget him."

人臣之术,顺从而复命,无所敢专,义不苟合,位不苟尊;必有益于国,必有补于君;故其身尊而子孙保之。故人臣之行有六正六邪,行六正则荣,犯六邪则辱,夫荣辱者,祸福之门也。何谓六正六邪?六正者:一曰萌芽未动,形兆未见,昭然独见存亡之几,得失之要,预禁乎不然之前,使主超然立乎显荣之处,天下称孝焉,如此者圣臣也。二曰虚心白意,进善通道,勉主以体谊,谕主以长策,将顺其美,匡救其恶,功成事立,归善于君,不敢独伐其劳,如此者良臣也。三曰卑身贱体,夙兴夜寐,进贤不解,数称于往古之德行事以厉主意,庶几有益,以安国家社稷宗庙,如此者忠臣也。四曰明察幽,见成败早,防而救之,引而复之,塞其间,绝其源,转祸以为福,使君终以无忧,如此者智臣也。五曰守文奉法,任官职事,辞禄让赐,不受赠遗,衣服端齐,饮食节俭,如此者贞臣也。六曰国家昏乱,所为不道,然而敢犯主之颜面,言君之过失,不辞其诛,身死国安,不悔所行,如此者直臣也,是为六正也。六邪者:一曰安官贪禄,营于私家,不务公事,怀其智,藏其能,主饥于论,渴于策,犹不肯尽节,容容乎与世沈浮上下,左右观望,如此者具臣也。二曰主所言皆曰善,主所为皆曰可,隐而求主之所好即进之,以快主耳目,偷合苟容与主为乐,不顾其后害,如此者谀臣也。三曰中实颇险,外容貌小谨,巧言令色,又心嫉贤,所欲进则明其美而隐其恶,所欲退则明其过而匿其美,使主妄行过任,赏罚不当,号令不行,如此者奸臣也。四曰智足以饰非,辩足以行说,反言易辞而成文章,内离骨肉之亲,外妒乱朝廷,如此者谗臣也。五曰专权擅势,持招国事以为轻重于私门,成党以富其家,又复增加威势,擅矫主命以自显贵,如此者贼臣也。六曰谄言以邪,坠主不义,朋党比周,以蔽主明,入则辩言好辞,出则更复异其言语,使白黑无别,是非无间,伺侯可推,而因附然,使主恶布于境内,闻于四邻,如此者亡国之臣也,是谓六邪。贤臣处六正之道,不行六邪之术,故上安而下治,生则见乐,死则见思,此人臣之术也。

程秉字德枢,汝南南顿人也。逮事郑玄,后避乱交州,与刘熈考论大义,遂博通五经。士燮命为长史。权闻其名儒,以礼徵秉,旣到,拜太子太傅。黄武四年,权为太子登娉周瑜女,秉守太常,迎妃于吴,权亲幸秉船,深见优礼。旣还,秉从容进说登曰:“婚姻人伦之始,王教之基,是以圣王重之,所以率先衆庶,风化天下,故诗美关雎,以为称首。愿太子尊礼教于闺房,存周南之所咏,则道化隆于上,颂声作于下矣。”登笑曰:“将顺其美,匡救其恶,诚所赖于傅君也。”
