再期之喪，	The mourning which lasted for two complete years
三年也；	was (held to be) for three years;
期之喪，	and that which lasted for one complete year
二年也。	for two years.
九月七月之喪，	The mourning for nine months and that for seven months
三時也；	was held to be for three seasons;
五月之喪，	that for five months
二時也；	for two;
三月之喪，	and that for three months
一時也。	for one.
故期而祭，	Hence the sacrifice at the end of the completed year
禮也；	was according to the prescribed rule;
期而除喪，	but the putting off the mourning (or a part of it) then
道也。	was the course (prompted by natural feeling).
祭不為除喪也。	The sacrifice was not on account of the putting off of the mourning.
