載芟載柞、They clear away the grass and the bushes;
其耕澤澤。And the ground is laid open by their ploughs.
千耦其耘、In thousands of pairs they remove the roots,
徂隰徂畛。Some in the low wet lands, some along the dykes.
侯主侯伯、There are the master and his eldest son;
侯亞侯旅、His younger sons, and all their children;
侯彊侯以。Their strong helpers, and their hired servants.
有嗿其饁、How the noise of their eating the viands brought to them resounds!
思媚其婦、[The husbands] think lovingly of their wives;
有依其士。[The wives] keep close to their husbands.
有略其耜、[Then] with their sharp plough-shares,
俶載南畝。They set to work on the south-lying acres.
播厥百殼、They sow their different kinds of grain,
實函斯活。Each seed containing in it a germ of life.
驛驛其達、In unbroken lines rises the blade,
有厭其傑。And well-nourished the stalks grow long.
厭厭其苗、Luxuriant looks the young grain,
綿綿其麃。And the weeders go among it in multitudes.
載穫濟濟、Then come the reapers in crowds,
有實其積、And the grain is piled up the fields,
萬億及秭。Myriads, and hundreds of thousands, and millions [of stacks];
為酒為醴、For spirits and for sweet spirits,
烝畀祖妣、To offer to our ancestors, male and female,
以洽百禮。And to provide for all ceremonies.
有飶其香、Fragrant is their aroma,
邦家之光。Enhancing the glory of the State.
有椒其馨、Like pepper is their smell,
胡考之寧。To give comfort to the aged.
匪且有且、It is not here only that there is this [abundance];
匪今斯今、It is not now only that there is such a time:
振古如茲。From of old it has been thus.
