Back Forward
Confucianism -> Liji -> Ji Yi -> 38

Those who had received the first degree of office took places according to age (at meetings) in the country and villages;
those who had received the second, took places in the same way (at meetings) of all the members of their relatives.
Those who had received the third degree did not pay the same regard to age.
But at meetings of all the members of a clan no one dared to take precedence of one who was seventy years old.
Those who were seventy,
did not go to court unless for some great cause.
When they did so for such a cause,
the ruler would bow and give place to them,
afterwards going on to the parties possessed of rank.
