中國有人焉，'Here is a man (born) in one of the middle states.
非陰非陽， He feels himself independent both of the Yin and Yang,
處於天地之閒， and dwells between heaven and earth;
直且為人， only for the present a mere man,
將反於宗。 but he will return to his original source.
自本觀之， Looking at him in his origin,
生者， when his life begins,
暗醷物也。 we have (but) a gelatinous substance in which the breath is collecting.
雖有壽夭， Whether his life be long or his death early,
相去幾何？ how short is the space between them!
須臾之說也。 It is but the name for a moment of time,
奚足以為堯、桀之是非？ insufficient to play the part of a good Yao or a bad Jie in.
