Posted by: billha (Bill Haines) | I argue that the ideas in Analects 1.2 were not Confucius』 views. We don』t find them elsewhere in the Analects. Youzi was not a student of Confucius. He brought these ideas to the group after Confucius』 death. I』d be happy to discuss any part of my argument.
The argument is in the article, 「The Purloined Philosopher: Youzi on Learning by Virtue,」 in Philosophy East and West, Volume 58, Number 4, October 2008, pp. 470-491. The particular discussion of this passage is on pages 474-7.
