《唐書》曰：西趙蠻在東謝之南，其界東至夷子，西至昆明，南至西洱河。洱，音珥。山洞阻深，莫知道里，南北十八日行，東西二十三日行。其風俗物產與東謝同。首領趙氏，世為酋長，有戶萬餘。貞觀三年，遣使入朝。二十一年，以其地置明州，即以首領趙磨為刺史。
