视而可识者，不待𧰼而其形巳彰。察而见意者，不必㑹而其意可见。伏羲初剙一画若作一点为主字、或作一竖为丨字，似皆可，但画卦用手一举而画之，自然从左起画至右止画，此顺其手之势，宜为横而不宜为从者。许言上下则一二三之为指事，不待言上则丨在一之上下则丨在一之下不问而知上下在一画之后矣。此指事为制字之本，𣃔无先之者也鹤寿案：段茂堂《说文》注人皆讥其擅攺篆文，余谓改之而无据不可以训，若改之而有据，固可适从。卽如宋板徐铉本〈一部〉上字古文作丄，篆文作●，而古文「帝」字下《注》云：古文诸丄字皆从一，篆文皆从𠄞𠄞古文「上」字。〈示部〉示字篆文作●《注》云：从𠄞𠄞古文上字。据此则知古文丄当为𠄞，而篆文●当为丄矣。《说文》以𠄞𠄟为指事，段《注》云：此谓古文也。有在一之上者，有在一之下者，视之而可识为上下，察之而见上下之意。许于〈𠄞部〉曰𠄞高也，此指事𠄟底也，此指事敍复举以明之。指事之别于𧰼形者，形谓一物事赅衆物，专博斯分故一举日月一举𠄞𠄟，𠄞𠄟所晐之物多，日月祗一物此指事𧰼形所由分矣。指事亦得称𧰼形，故乙丁戊已皆指事，而丁戊已解曰𧰼形，子丑寅卯皆指事，而皆解曰𧰼形。一二三四皆指事，而四解曰𧰼形。有事则有形而其实不能混指事不可以㑹心淆合，两文为会意，独体为指事。徐金楚及江艮庭往主误认。孙守真按：徐楚金。
