| 4 | 楚庄王: | 子赤杀，弗忍书日，痛其祸也。子般杀而书乙未，杀其恩也。屈伸之志，详略之文，皆应之。吾以其近近而远远，亲亲而疏疏也，亦知其贵贵而贱贱，重重而轻轻也。有知其厚厚而薄薄，善善而恶恶也，有知其阳阳而阴阴，白白而黑黑也。百物皆有合偶，偶之合之，仇之匹之，善矣。《诗》云：“成仪抑抑，德音秩秩。无怨无恶，率由仇匹。”此之谓也。《春秋》，义之大者也。视其温辞，可以知其塞怨。是故于外，道而不显，于内，讳而不隐。于尊亦然，于贤亦然。此其别内外、差贤不肖而等尊卑也。义不讪上，智不危身。故远者以义讳，近者以智畏。畏与义兼，则世逾近而言逾谨矣。此定哀之所以微其辞。以故用则天下平，不用则安其身，《春秋》之道也。 |
