2 辨祟:
凡人在世,不能不作事,作事之后,不能不有吉凶。见吉则指以为前时择日之福,见凶则刺以为往者触忌之祸。多或择日而得祸,触忌而获福。工伎射事者欲遂其术,见祸忌而不言,闻福匿而不达,积祸以惊不慎,列福以勉畏时。故世人无愚智、贤不肖、人君布衣,皆畏惧信向,不敢抵犯。归之久远,莫能分明,以为天地之书、贤圣之术也。人君惜其官,人民爱其身,相随信之,不复狐疑。故人君兴事,工伎满閤;人民有为,触伤问时。奸书伪文,由此滋生。巧惠生意,作知求利,惊惑愚暗,渔富偷贫,愈非古法度圣人之至意也。圣人举事,先定于义,义已定立,决以卜筮,示不专己,明与鬼神同意共指,欲令众下信用不疑。故《书》列七卜,《易》载八卦,从之未必有福,违之未必有祸。然而祸福之至,时也;死生之到,命也。人命悬于天,吉凶存于时。命穷操行善,天不能续;命长操行恶,天不能夺。天、百神主也。道德仁义,天之道也;战栗恐惧,天之心也。废道灭德,贱天之道;险隘恣睢,悖天之意。世间不行道德,莫过桀、纣;妄行不轨,莫过幽、厉,桀、纣不早死,幽、厉不夭折。由此言之,逢福获喜,不在择日避时;涉患丽祸,不在触岁犯月,明矣。

陛下拨乱反正,文武并用,深愍经蓺谬杂,真伪错乱,每临朝日,辄延群臣讲论圣道。知丘明至贤,亲受孔子,而公羊、谷梁传闻于后世,故诏立左氏,博询可否,示不专己,尽之群下也。今论者沈溺所习,玩守旧闻,固执虚言传受之辞,以非亲见实事之道。左氏孤学少与,遂为异家之所覆冒。夫至音不合众听,故伯牙绝弦;至宝不同众好,故卞和泣血。仲尼圣德,而不容于世,况于竹帛馀文,其为雷同者所排,固其宜也。非陛下至明,孰能察之!
