1 道德經:
道可道,非常道。名可名,非常名。無名天地之始;有名萬物之母。故常無欲,以觀其妙;常有欲,以觀其徼。此兩者,同出而異名,同謂之玄。玄之又玄,衆妙之門。
Dao De Jing:
(Embodying the Dao)
The Dao that can be trodden is not the enduring and unchanging Dao. The name that can be named is not the enduring and unchanging name. (Conceived of as) having no name, it is the Originator of heaven and earth; (conceived of as) having a name, it is the Mother of all things.
Always without desire we must be found,
If its deep mystery we would sound;
But if desire always within us be,
Its outer fringe is all that we shall see.
Under these two aspects, it is really the same; but as development takes place, it receives the different names. Together we call them the Mystery. Where the Mystery is the deepest is the gate of all that is subtle and wonderful.

道可道,謂經術政教之道也。非常道。非自然生長之道也。常道當以無為養神,無事安民,含光藏暉,滅跡匿端,不可稱道。名可名,謂富貴尊榮,高世之名也。非常名。非自然常在之名也。常名當如嬰兒之未言,雞子之未分,明珠在蚌中,美玉處石間,內雖昭昭,外如愚頑。無名,天地之始。無名者謂道,道無形,故不可名也。始者道本也,吐氣布化,出於虛無,為天地本始也。有名,萬物之母。有名謂天地。天地有形位、有陰陽、有柔剛,是其有名也。萬物母者,天地含氣生萬物,長大成熟,如母之養子也。故常無欲,以觀其妙;妙,要也。人常能無欲,則可以觀道之要,要謂一也。一出布名道,讚敘明是非。常有欲,以觀其徼。徼,歸也。常有欲之人,可以觀世俗之所歸趣也。此兩者,同出而異名,兩者,謂有欲無欲也。同出者,同出人心也。而異名者,所名各異也。名無欲者長存,名有欲者亡身也。同謂之玄,玄,天也。言有欲之人與無欲之人,同受氣於天也。玄之又玄,天中復有天也。稟氣有厚薄,得中和滋液,則生賢聖,得錯亂污辱,則生貪淫也。眾妙之門。能之天中復有天,稟氣有厚薄,除情去欲守中和,是謂知道要之門戶也。

《梁簡文帝招真館碑》曰:夫東瀛淥水,三變成田,西岳靈桃,千載未子,尚以星起牽牛,苛首迢遞,律生甲子,氣數杳冥,沈復上遊玉清,損之又損,高排金闕,玄之又玄,豈言象之能筌,非時節之所辯,高巖鬱起,帶青雲而作峰,瀑水懸流,雜天河而俱灑,雖日門採藥之地,楚望懷椒之歌,陽反流沙之魂,錦識汾陰之鼎,無以喻書。銘曰:玉龜二始,金書八會,道浹地心,功浮天外,故帝可小,推真能大,德起同塵,善生塞兌,保物自然,人符交泰,掩映綠羅,穹隆紫蓋,仙冶之美,此焉為最,雄柱千步,陽臺百丈,水均下矚,山踰高掌,野寂雲興,禽繁山響,升虹音絳。夕栖,豐雷朝上,書藏玉柙,藥蘊銀筒,燒鉛雜鯉,折桂和蔥,斧柯雖朽,碑石無窮。

55 仙道:
《陳沈炯林屋館記》曰:夫玄之又玄,處眾妙之極,可乎不可,成道行之致,斯蓋寂寥窅冥,希微恍惚,故非淮南八仙之圖,賴鄉九井之記,至若崑山平圃,銀牓相暉,蓬閬仙宮,金臺崛起,南瞰胥臺,傍連飛閣,桂柱星羅,瓊軒雲構。銘曰:大道既隱,眾聖無門,悠悠大極,誰見玄根,祈年立秦,望仙表漢,髣彿神靈,依俙宮觀,峨峨林屋,輪奐徘徊,庭羅花鳥,室靜塵埃。
