| I grieve for this age's customs that approach adversity, and I wish to lightly rise and travel far away. My nature is frail and without cause; how can I entrust myself to a vehicle that will carry me upward? Meeting with murky filth, I am stained and defiled; who alone can understand my sorrow and to whom shall I speak! The night is bright and sleepless; my soul flutters anxiously until dawn. Only the heavens and earth are boundless; I lament that human life is long toil. Those who have gone before I cannot reach, and those yet to come I do not hear. Walking back and forth with distant thoughts, my heart feels sorrowful, bewildered, and disconsolate. My mind is hazy and drifting; my heart grows sad and more sorrowful. The spirit departs swiftly without return, while the body withers and remains alone. Within I reflect to maintain integrity; returning, I align myself with the path of righteous qi. I remain silent and tranquil for inner peace, content in non-action and self-fulfillment. Hearing of Chi Song's pure dust, I wish to follow the example left by his influence. I value the virtuous deeds of the True Person, and admire those who ascended to immortality in past ages. They depart with transformation without leaving a trace; their fame becomes renowned and grows daily. I marvel at Fu Yue being entrusted to the star Chen, and envy Han Zhong who attained unity. The form becomes serene and gradually distant; I leave society and retreat into seclusion. With the transformation of qi, I suddenly rise aloft; spirits rush forth and ghosts appear strange. At times vaguely seen from afar, my spirit shines brightly as it comes and goes. Transcending dust and filth to dwell in purity, I will never return to my old capital. Free from many troubles without fear, the world does not know where I go. I fear that time will change in its order; the radiant sun shines brilliantly as it journeys westward. Light frost falls and descends, lamenting that fragrant grasses wither first. I wander leisurely in carefree ease, yet through many years I achieve nothing. With whom can I enjoy this lingering fragrance? I often face the wind to express my feelings. Gao Yang is distant and far away; where shall I set my course? | ||

| Chong said: The spring and autumn seasons pass swiftly without lingering; why linger long in this old home? Xuanyuan cannot be reached or followed; I shall follow Wang Qiao and indulge in play. I consume the six breaths and drink Hangxie, rinse with Zhengyang and contain morning mist. Preserving the clarity of spirit and mind, refined qi enters while coarse impurities are removed. Following the favorable wind to wander freely, I arrive at Nan Chao for a moment's rest. I meet Prince Wang and stay with him; I examine the harmony of one qi and virtue. He said, "The Dao can be received but cannot be transmitted; its smallness has no interior, and its greatness is boundless; do not disturb your spirit; it will then be natural; one qi is most divine, and in the middle of the night it remains present; remain empty to await its presence, without seeking precedence; all things take form through this—this is the gate of virtue." Hearing of supreme worth, I depart swiftly; suddenly, I am about to go. Still associating with feathered people on Dan Qiu, remaining in the old homeland of immortality. In the morning I wash my hair at Tang Gu; in the evening I dry my body beneath the Nine Yangs. I sip the subtle essence of flying springs, and cherish the beautiful jade-like brilliance within me. My complexion becomes radiant and moist with jade-like color; my spirit is pure and refined, beginning to grow strong. My nature melts away in graceful fluidity, while my spirit becomes ethereal and unrestrained. I praise the fiery virtue of Nan Zhou, beautiful is the winter-blooming laurel tree; The mountains are desolate without beasts, and the wilderness is silent with no people. I carry my spirit and soul upward through the rosy clouds, veiling drifting clouds as I ascend. I command Heaven's gatekeeper to open the gates, and push aside Changhe to look upon me. Like Fenglong I send forth a guide, inquiring where Taiwei dwells. Gathering the essence of double yang to enter the imperial palace, I proceed to Xunshi and observe Qing Du. In the morning I set forth from Taiyi; by evening I arrive at Weilu. I gather my ten-thousand chariots, and they rush forward in a confused yet graceful manner. Driving eight dragons that coil gracefully, I bear the cloud banners undulating like serpents. I raise a colorful banner of the male rainbow; five colors blend and shine brilliantly. The steeds bend and rise in proud display, while the side horses curl and strut with arrogance. Riding in tangled disorder, they spread out widely as they proceed. I grasp my reins and steady the whip; I shall pass by Goumang. Passing through Taihao to turn right, ahead Feilian clears my path. The sun shines brightly but has not yet fully illuminated; I cross the heavens and earth directly. Fengbo serves as my vanguard, clearing away dust to bring coolness and clarity. The phoenix spreads its wings to bear the banner; I meet Ru Shou at Xi Huang. I grasp the comet as a standard, and raise the handle of the Dipper as my banner. Rebelliously scattering in all directions above and below, I travel through the surging waves of mist. At that time, warm haze spreads thickly; I summon Xuanwu to rush and follow me. Later, Wenchang orders the way forward, selecting and appointing many gods to proceed together. The road is long and far-reaching; I slowly restrain my pace and ascend high. To the left, Yushi attends directly by my side; to the right, Leigong serves as my guard. I wish to transcend this world and forget to return, my mind proud and self-assured. Within I am joyful and pleased with myself; I indulge in pleasure for amusement. I travel through the blue clouds, wandering freely; suddenly I glance down at my old hometown. My servant grieves for my heart's sorrow; the side horse glances back and refuses to move forward. Thinking of old friends and imagining them, I sigh deeply and wipe away my tears. I broadly roam and rise far away; for a while I restrain my will and calm myself. Pointing toward the fiery deity, I gallop straight ahead; I shall go to Nan Yi. Surveying the hazy lands beyond the world, I feel my spirit dissipate and float freely. Zhurong warns and clears the way; he sends word to summon the 鸾 bird to welcome Fu Fei. They perform "Xianchi" and play "Chengyun"; two daughters ride, playing "Jiu Shao" in song. I command Xiang Ling to play the se; I order Hai Ruo to dance Fengyi. Black dragons and creatures like elephants emerge together, their forms coiling and undulating like serpents. Female rainbows gracefully undulate and twist, while phoenixes spread their wings and soar aloft. Music spreads broadly without end; how can one leave and wander about? I extend my harmonious rhythm to gallop freely, reaching the distant boundary at Hanmen. Outpacing the swift wind and clearing the source of heaven, I follow Zhuansuo among thickening ice. Passing through Xuanming along a crooked path, I ride between gaps and glance back. I summon Qianying to meet me; he leads the way for me on level roads. Surveying all four directions, I circulate through the six boundless realms. Ascending to Lieque above, descending to gaze upon the great chasm below. Below it is precipitous and without ground; above it is vast and without sky. Looking, I see nothing in the blink of an eye; listening, I hear nothing but confusion. Transcending non-action to reach purity, I dwell alongside Tai Chu. |
