万历（1573年－1620年九月十九日zh-hans:，历繁体字作-{历，;zh-hant:，}-清朝避讳乾隆帝弘历，将历写作历、厯、厤）是明神宗朱翊钧的年号，明朝使用此年号共48年，为明朝所使用时间最长的年号。万历前期，张居正主导实行了一系列的改革措施，社会经济持续发展，对外军事也接连获胜，朝廷呈现中兴气象，史称万历中兴。后由于国本之争，神宗受权臣阻止不能立爱子为储君，一怒之下三十年不上朝，史称万历怠政，此时期也因为神宗容许朝廷官员群党的对立，而出现了东林党争，并利用明末三案互相斗争，最终导致明朝灭亡。万历四十八年八月一日明光宗即位沿用，翌年改元泰昌，但明光宗于九月一日去世，在位仅30日。九月六日明熹宗即位后，于九月二十日诏令改以万历四十八年八月以后为泰昌元年，翌年改元天启。
