Zhao Changyan (945–1009), courtesy name Zhongmo, and also known as Youmo. He was from Xiaoyi, Fen Prefecture, Northern Song Dynasty (present-day Shanxi Province).His father, Zhao Rui, served as an observation and evaluation officer in An and Shen. Zhao Changyan had great ambitions from a young age. In the third year of the Taiping Xingguo era (978), he passed the imperial examination with top honors and was appointed as a supervisor of the Office of Construction. He later held various positions, including vice magistrate of Ezhou and deputy to the chief of staff. He eventually became an editor for official decrees and participated in the compilation of "Wenyuan Yinghua". In the fourth year of the Yongxi era (987), he was appointed as a vice minister of the Military Affairs Council. The following year, he was expelled from the court due to party factionalism. In the fourth year of the Chunhua era (993), he served as a deputy chancellor and strongly advocated for suppressing the rebellion led by Wang Xiaobo and Li Shun. He enjoyed mentoring younger officials, and his son-in-law was Wang Dan. Zhao Changyan was known for his stubbornness and arrogance. In the second year of the Dazhong Xiangfu era (1009), he died at the age of sixty-five. He was posthumously given the title "JingSu" and buried in the north of today's Zhaojiayang Village.
