Wang Kezhen, courtesy name Shoujie, was a native of Luling, Jiangxi.
In the tenth year of the Baoda era of Southern Tang, he became the zhuangyuan (top imperial examination candidate). He later held various positions, eventually reaching the rank of Deputy Envoy of the Office of Observations and Policies. During the Northern Song dynasty, he served as the Prefect of Hanzhou and was also a scholar in the Academy of Scholars. Throughout his career, he held the position of prefect in several locations including Huazhou, Xiangzhou, and Zizhou. He was commissioned to compile The Comprehensive Categories of the Great Peace (Taiping Guangji) and participated in the compilation of The Imperial Reader of the Great Peace (Taiping Yulan).
