Biography
In the 38th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign (1773), Lin accompanied his father across the sea to Taiwan, settling in Dali Village, Changhua County (now Taichung City's Dali District). In the 49th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign (1784), he joined the Heaven and Earth Society (Tiandihui) and later became the leader of the Changhua branch. In the 52nd year of Emperor Qianlong's reign, the Taiwan Prefecture Magistrate Sun Jingsui began to crack down on the Heaven and Earth Society, arresting Lin Shuangwen's uncles. Outraged, Lin declared himself "Allied Commander-in-Chief" and attacked government offices, starting a rebellion against the authorities.
Emperor Qianlong ordered Grand Secretary Fukangan and Censor-General Hailancha to lead a military campaign against him. They faced resistance from local feuds between the Quanzhou and Zhangzhou immigrants as well as attacks by aboriginal tribes, leading to their initial failure. Eventually, in the 53rd year of Emperor Qianlong's reign (1788), Lin Shuangwen was captured, sent to Beijing for trial, and executed by lingchi (death by a thousand cuts).

Influence
During the Japanese colonial period in Taiwan, famous poet Wang Baiyuan, who also descended from Zhangzhou immigrants in Taiwan, had a certain level of partial historical memory about Lin Shuangwen. In his memoirs, he mentioned that during his childhood, his father often told stories about Lin Shuangwen, which left a deep impression on him regarding Lin's appearance and revolutionary deeds.
