Tàichū (May 104 BC – 101 BC) was the seventh Emperor Wu of Han's era name. The Han Dynasty used the Tàichū era name for a total of four years.

In May of the first year of Tàichū, the calendar was reformed to use the Tàichū Calendar, which set the month of Jiǎyín (the first month in the Chinese lunar calendar) as the beginning of the year. Prior to this, the Zhuānxū Calendar had been used, with the month of Jiànhài (the tenth month in the Chinese lunar calendar) marking the start of the year. As a result, the months from October to December of the year before Tàichū were also counted as part of Tàichū's first year, making that year have 15 months.

太初（）是漢武帝的第七個年號。漢朝使用太初這個年號一共4年。

太初元年五月改曆，使用太初曆，以建寅之月為歲首（即農曆正月）。此前的顓頊曆以建亥為歲首（即農曆十月）。因此太初元年前一年的十月到十二月也算在太初元年裡，這一年共有15個月。
