Tai Bao, an ancient Chinese government position. It began to be established from the Zhou Dynasty, responsible for supervising and assisting young monarchs. The first Tai Bao was Zhao Gong. According to "Dai Dai Li Ji" (The Book of Rites): 「Zhao Gong served as the Tai Bao, Zhou Gong as the Tai Fu, and Taigong as the Grand Tutor (Taishi).」 When Wu Wang died, Cheng Wang was young, and Zhao Gong, as an elder, took on the role of Tai Bao to supervise. After Zhou Gong's eastern campaign victory, he built the Eastern Capital Chengzhou (present-day Luoyang, Henan), and Cheng Wang went to Chengzhou to personally govern. For this, Zhao Gong delivered a long teaching, which is recorded in "Shang Shu · Zhao Gao" (Book of Documents: Zhao's Edict). Zhou Gong and Zhao Gong divided their governance at Shan, with 「Zhao Gong governing west of Shan, and Zhou Gong east of Shan.」 Later, the descendants of Zhao Gong took Tai Bao as their surname. After the Spring and Autumn period, it was abolished, but it was reinstated during the Han Dynasty, ranking below the Tai Fu. Throughout history, it has been maintained, often added to high officials' titles without actual responsibilities. The History of Ming records: 「The Grand Tutor (Taishi), Tai Fu, and Tai Bao are known as the Three Excellencies, first rank... responsible for assisting the Son of Heaven, managing yin and yang, governing the state to promote harmony, their roles being of utmost importance.」 In the Zhou Dynasty, Tai Bao, Taishi, and Tai Fu were collectively known as the 「Three Excellencies.」

In the Goryeo period of Korea, there was also a position called Tai Bao. In the Joseon Dynasty, it was renamed to Dae Bo.
