臺灣府淡水撫民同知前身為臺灣府淡水捕盜同知，又稱「淡水同知」。該官職隸屬於臺灣道之臺灣府，為台灣清治時期的重要地方官員，自1731年（雍正九年）更名，官職品等則為正五品。淡水同知官職專司負責北台灣內政行政中心 新竹市，為駐守於淡水廳的地方父母官。因為當時淡水廳管轄區域為台灣基隆至新竹，因此實為北台灣的實際統治者。直至1876年1月16日（清光緒元年12月20日）沈葆楨奏請新設臺北府，設立時將淡水廳分割成淡水縣、基隆廳與新竹縣，而其官職設置台北府知府才予以縮減調整。The text above has been excerpted automatically from Wikipedia - please correct any errors in the original article.
