樊知古，字仲師。本名樊若水（一作若冰），字叔清。北宋池州（今安徽貴池）人。其先京兆長安人。早年為南唐書生，屢試不中，每天在採石磯釣魚，「乘小舟載絲繩，維南岸，疾棹抵北岸，以度江之廣狹」。後至汴京，授職舒州軍事推官。宋太祖詔李煜，速派人護送樊母及妻兒過江。開寶七年（974年），召拜太子右贊善大夫。宋軍出征江表時，以樊知古為嚮導。攻取池州後，留守池州。征南唐時，樊知古獻策，架浮橋于採石磯，大軍遂得渡江。以功擢拜侍御史。
祥興二年（1279）六月，文天祥被押赴大都，途經採石，作《採石》詩：「不上蛾眉二十歲，重來為墮山河淚。今人不見虞允文，古人曾有樊若水。」
