Evolution
Zha Jizuo began compiling the history of the Ming dynasty in the 17th year of the Chongzhen era (1644). He revised it numerous times, and initially named it Ming Shu. However, he was implicated in the private printing case of "Ming History" by Zhuang Tinglong, which led to his imprisonment. The book was then titled Zui Wei Lu as a reference to being recorded while in disgrace. The Zui Wei Lu consists of 22 volumes of Emperor Chronicles, 32 volumes of Treatises, and 36 volumes of Biographies. After being organized by Zhang Zongxiang, Jiang Zuoyu, and others, it was finalized into 102 volumes.
