乃燕性情謙和，好學，以賢能著稱。其父速渾察去世後，蒙哥命乃燕襲爵，他辭讓不受。推舉兄長忽林池襲為國王，代行軍國事。忽林池擔任國王，事無巨細，必與乃燕商議。每當元世祖與乃燕論事，他明習典故，知無不言。其後病卒，其子碩德。至正八年（1348年）追封魯郡公。
