[Translation history]

Ji should be harvested early, while shu is best harvested later.
零落不成If Ji is harvested too late, many grains will fall off; if Shu is harvested too early, the grain will not be fully developed.
:「折頭。」A proverb says: "Ji turns green at the throat, and shu breaks at the head."
Both should be trampled while still damp.
If left for a long time, they will become damp and moldy; if dried before treading, many grains will remain in the husks.
For Ji, after trampling, it should be steamed and stored (yì).
香氣不歇If not steamed, it is difficult to pound; the grains will be broken and by spring they will smell of earth. If steamed, pounding becomes easier, the rice is firm, and its fragrance lasts through summer without fading.
Shu should be dried in the sun until it is dry.
If kept damp, it will become moldy and spoiled.
