昧昧我思之，	'I have deeply thought and concluded.
如有一介臣，	Let me have but one resolute minister,
断断猗无他技，	plain and sincere, without other ability,
其心休休焉，	but having a straightforward mind,
其如有容。	and possessed of generosity,
人之有技，	regarding the talents of others
若己有之。	as if he himself possessed them;
人之彦圣，	and when he finds accomplished and sage men,
其心好之，	loving them in his heart
不啻若自其口出。	more than his mouth expresses,
是能容之，	really showing himself able to bear them:
以保我子孙黎民，	such a minister would be able to preserve my descendants and people,
亦职有利哉！	and would indeed be a giver of benefits.
人之有技，	But if (the minister), when he finds men of ability,
冒疾以恶之；	be jealous and hates them;
人之彦圣而违之，	if, when he finds accomplished and sage men, he oppose them
俾不达是不能容，	and does not allow their advancement, showing himself really not able to bear them:
以不能保我子孙黎民，	such a man will not be able to protect my descendants and people;
亦曰殆哉！	and will he not be a dangerous man?
