曰：“恶！Mencius said, 'Oh!
是何言也？what words are these?
昔者子贡、问于孔子曰：Formerly Zi Gong asked Confucius, saying,
‘夫子圣矣乎？’"Master, are you a Sage?"
孔子曰： Confucius answered him,
‘圣则吾不能， "A Sage is what I cannot rise to.
我学不厌而教不倦也。’I learn without satiety, and teach without being tired."
子贡曰： Zi Gong said,
‘学不厌， "You learn without satiety
智也；- that shows your wisdom.
教不倦， You teach without being tired
仁也。- that shows your benevolence.
仁且智， Benevolent and wise
夫子既圣矣！’- Master, you ARE a Sage."
夫圣，孔子不居，Now, since Confucius would not allow himself to be regarded as a Sage,
