楚楚者茨、Thick grew the tribulus [on the ground],
言抽其棘。But they cleared away its thorny bushes.
自昔何为、Why did they this of old?
我蓺黍稷。That we might plant our millet and sacrificial millet;
我黍与与、That our millet might be abundant,
我稷翼翼。And our sacrificial millet luxuriant.
我仓既盈、When our barns are full,
我庾维忆。And our stacks can be counted by tens of myriads,
以为酒食、We proceed to make spirits and prepare viands,
以飨以祀。For offerings and sacrifice;
以妥以侑、We seat the representatives of the dead, and urge them to eat:
以介景福。Thus seeking to increase our bright happiness.
