瞻卬昊天、I look up to great Heaven,
則不我惠。But it shows us no kindness.
孔填不寧、Very long have we been disquieted,
降此大厲。And these great calamities are sent down [upon us].
邦靡有定、There is nothing settled in the country;
士民其瘵。Officers and people are in distress.
蟊賊蟊疾、Through the insects from without and from within,
靡有夷屆。There is no peace or limit [to our misery].
罪罟不收、The net of crime is not taken up,
靡有夷瘳。And there is no peace nor cure [for our state].
