孟子曰：Mencius said,
“鸡鸣而起，'He who rises at cock-crowing
孳孳为善者， and addresses himself earnestly to the practice of virtue,
舜之徒也。 is a disciple of Shun.
鸡鸣而起， He who rises at cock-crowing,
孳孳为利者， and addresses himself earnestly to the pursuit of gain,
跖之徒也。 is a disciple of Zhi.
欲知舜与跖之分， If you want to know what separates Shun from Zhi,
无他， it is simply this:
利与善之闲也。” the interval between the thought of gain and the thought of virtue.'
