初一曰五行，'(Of those divisions) the first is called "the five elements;"
次二曰敬用五事，the second, "reverent attention to the five (personal) matters;"
次三曰农用八政，the third, "earnest devotion to the eight (objects of) government;"
次四曰协用五纪，the fourth, "the harmonious use of the five dividers of time;"
次五曰建用皇极，the fifth, "the establishment and use of royal perfection;"
次六曰乂用三德，the sixth, "the discriminating use of the three virtues;"
次七曰明用稽疑，the seventh, "the intelligent use of (the means for) the examination of doubts;"
次八曰念用庶徵，the eighth, "the thoughtful use of the various verifications;"
次九曰向用五福，the ninth, "the hortatory use of the five (sources of) happiness,
威用六极。 and the awing use of the six (occasions of) Suffering."'
