肆予冲人永思艰，I, in my youth, (also) think continually of these hardships,
曰： and say,
呜呼！ Alas!
允蠢，these senseless movements
鳏寡哀哉！ will deplorably afflict the wifeless men and widows!
予造天役， But I am the servant of Heaven,
遗大投艰于朕身，which has assigned me this great task, and laid the hard duty on my person.
越予冲人，I therefore, the young one,
不卬自恤。 do not pity myself;
义尔邦君越尔多士、尹氏、御事绥予曰：and it would be right in you, the many officers, the directors of departments, and the managers of my affairs, to comfort me, saying,
‘无毖于恤， "Do not be distressed with sorrow.
不可不成乃宁考图功！’ We shall surely complete the plans of your Tranquillizing father."
