夫寒溫、譴告、變動、招致，四疑皆已論矣。Heat and cold, reprimands, phenomenal changes, and attraction, all these four errors have already been treated.
譴告於天道尤詭， Reprimands are more contrary to the ways of Heaven than anything else,
故重論之， therefore I have discussed them twice,
論之所以難別也。 explaining where the difficulties in the way of the two antagonistic views lie.
說合於人事， The one is in accordance with human affairs,
不入於道意。 but does not fall in with Daoism,
從道不隨事，the other agrees with Daoism, but is not in harmony with human affairs.
雖違儒家之說， But though opposed to the belief of the Confucianists,
合黃、老之義也。 it corresponds to the ideas of Huang Di and Laozi.
