汤之问棘也是已。In the questions put by Tang to Ji we have similar statements:
穷发之北，'In the bare and barren north
有冥海者，there is the dark and vast ocean
天池也。- the Pool of Heaven.
有鱼焉，In it there is a fish,
其广数千里，several thousand li in breadth,
未有知其修者，while no one knows its length.
其名为鲲。Its name is the kun.
有鸟焉，There is (also) a bird
其名为鹏，named the peng;
背若泰山，its back is like the Tai mountain,
翼若垂天之云，while its wings are like clouds all round the sky.
抟扶摇羊角而上者九万里，On a whirlwind it mounts upwards as on the whorls of a goat's horn for 90,000 li,
绝云气，till, far removed from the cloudy vapours,
负青天，it bears on its back the blue sky,
然后图南，and then it shapes its course for the South,
且适南冥也。and proceeds to the ocean there.'
斥鴳笑之曰：A quail by the side of a marsh laughed at it, and said,
“彼且奚适也？ 'Where is it going to?
我腾跃而上， I spring up with a bound,
不过数仞而下， and come down again when I have reached but a few fathoms,
翱翔蓬蒿之间， and then fly about among the brushwood and bushes;
此亦飞之至也。 and this is the perfection of flying.
而彼且奚适也？”Where is that creature going to?'
此小大之辩也。This shows the difference between the small and the great.
