道家 -> 莊子 -> 雜篇 -> 則陽 -> 11

少知曰：Shao Zhi said,
「四方之內， 'Within the limits of the four cardinal points,
六合之裏， and the six boundaries of space,
萬物之所生惡起？」 how was it that there commenced the production of all things?'
太公調曰： Da-gong Diao replied,
「陰陽相照、相蓋、相治，'The Yin and Yang reflected light on each other, covered each other, and regulated each the other;
四時相代、相生、相殺，the four seasons gave place to one another, produced one another, and brought one another to an end.
欲惡去就於是橋起，Likings and dislikings, the avoidings of this and movements towards that, then arose (in the things thus produced), in their definite distinctness;
雌雄片合於是庸有。 and from this came the separation and union of the male and female.
安危相易，Then were seen now security and now insecurity, in mutual change;
禍福相生， misery and happiness produced each other;
緩急相摩， gentleness and urgency pressed on each other;
聚散以成。 the movements of collection and dispersion were established:
此名實之可紀， these names and processes can be examined,
精微之可志也。and, however minute, can be recorded.
隨序之相理， The rules determining the order in which they follow one another,
橋運之相使， their mutual influence now acting directly and now revolving,
窮則反，how, when they are exhausted, they revive,
終則始。 and how they end and begin again;
此物之所有， these are the properties belonging to things.
言之所盡，Words can describe them
知之所至， and knowledge can reach to them;
極物而已。 but with this ends all that can be said of things.
覩道之人，Men who study the Dao
不隨其所廢， do not follow on when these operations end,
不原其所起， nor try to search out how they began:
此議之所止。」 with this all discussion of them stops.'
