軍爵，The military ranks
自一級已下至小夫，from the first degree down to the small prefects
命曰校徒操士。are called xiao, tu, cao, shi;
公爵，the public ranks
自二級已上至不更，from the second degree upwards to the degree of bu-geng
命曰卒。are called military officials, zu.
其戰也，五人束簿為伍； In battle five men are organized into a squad;
一人死， if one of them is killed,
而剄其四人。 the other four are beheaded.
能人得一首，則復。If a man can capture one head then he is exempted from taxes.
五人一屯長，百人一將。For every five men is there a corporal, tun-chang, and for every hundred men a centurion, chiang.
其戰，百將屯長必得斬首；If in a battle the centurions and corporals are unsuccessful, they are beheaded;
得三十三首以上，盈論，if they are successful, thirty-three heads or more are accounted ample,
百將屯長賜爵一級。 and to the centurions and corporals one degree in rank is given.
五百主，An officer of 500 men
短兵五十人。 has 50 swordsmen with short weapons;
二五百，主將之，短兵百。an officer of twice 500 men, in commanding them has 100 swordsmen;
千石之令，a prefect with an income of 1,000 piculs of grain
短兵百人。 has 100 swordsmen;
八百之令，a prefect with an income of 800 piculs of grain
短兵八十人。 has 80 swordsmen;
七百之令，one with 700 piculs
短兵七十人。 has 70 swordsmen;
六百之令，one with 600 piculs
短兵六十人。 has 60 swordsmen;
國尉，短兵千人。 the guo-wei has 1,000 swordsmen,
大將，短兵四千人。 and the general has 4,000 swordsmen.
戰及死事，If in a battle, it comes so far that he is killed,
而剄短兵； then the swordsmen are beheaded.
