國子高曰：Guo-zi gao said,
「葬也者，'Burying
藏也； means hiding away;
藏也者，and that hiding (of the body)
欲人之弗得見也。 is from a wish that men should not see it.
是故，Hence
衣足以飾身， there are the clothes sufficient for an elegant covering;
棺周於衣， the coffin all round about the clothes;
槨周於棺， the shell all round about the coffin;
土周於槨； and the earth all round about the shell.
反壤樹之哉。」 And shall we farther raise a mound over the grave and plant it with trees?'
