「訩訩北夷，The quarrelsome Xiongnu
被我純繢， wear our painted silk robes,
帶我金犀， don our golden belt buckles,
珍膳寧餬， and eat our delicacies and finest oils.
不亦享乎？」 Is this not like the generosity of sacrificial offerings?
曰：Yangzi said:
「昔在高、文、武，In the past, in the time of Gaozu, Emperor Wen, and Emperor Wu,
實為兵主。 the Xiongnu were indeed the military's top priority.
今稽首來臣， Now their ministers come and kotow,
稱為北蕃， and they are called "the northern frontier."
是為宗廟之神，This is for the spirits of our ancestors
社稷之靈也， and the spirits of Earth and grain.
可不享？」 Can it not but be like sacrificial offerings?
