子云：The Master said,
“天无二日， 'There are not two suns in the sky,
土无二王， nor two kings in a territory,
家无二主， nor two masters in a family,
尊无二上， nor two superiors of equal honour;
示民有君臣之别也。” and the people are shown how the distinction between ruler and subject should be maintained.
《春秋》不称楚越之王丧， The Chun Qiu does not mention the funeral rites for the kings of Chu and Yue.
礼君不称天，According to the rules, the ruler of a state is not spoken of as "Heaven's,"
大夫不称君， and a Great officer is not spoken of as "a ruler"
恐民之惑也。- lest the people should be led astray.
《诗》云： It is said in the ode,
“相彼盍旦， "Look at (that bird) which in the night calls out for the morning."
尚犹患之。” Even this is still occasion for being dissatisfied with it.'
