故子墨子置天之，以为仪法。Therefore Mozi established the will of Heaven to be the standard.
非独子墨子以天之志为法也， Not only Mozi established the will of Heaven to be the standard,
于先王之书大夏之道之然： it is also the theme of an ode in the "Da Ya" among the books of the ancient kings:
“帝谓文王， "God said to King Wen,
予怀而明德， 'I cherish your intelligent virtue.
毋大声以色， It was not proclaimed with much noise or gesture.
毋长夏以革， It was not modified after the possession of the empire.
不识不知，Instinctively and naturally
顺帝之则。” submissive to the scheme of God.'
此诰文王之以天志为法也，而顺帝之则也。" This is to proclaim that King Wen used the will of Heaven as standard and was submissive to God's scheme.
且今天下之士君子，If the gentlemen of the world
中实将欲为仁义，really desire to practise magnanimity and righteousness
求为上士， and be superior men,
上欲中圣王之道，seeking to attain the way of the sage-kings on the one hand
下欲中国家百姓之利者， and to procure blessings to the people on the other,
当天之志，而不可不察也。 they must not neglect to understand the will of Heaven.
天之志者，义之经也。The will of Heaven is truly the standard of righteousness.
