孔丘之齐见景公，Kong Qiu visited the state of Qi and saw Lord Jing.
景公说，Lord Jing was pleased
欲封之以尼溪， and was going to assign Ni Xi to him.
以告晏子。 He told Yanzi about it.
晏子曰： Yanzi said:
“不可夫儒浩居而自顺者也，"Please do not. A scholar of his school would sit crouching and take things easy,
不可以教下； therefore he cannot be made to teach the subordinates.
好乐而淫人， He likes music and will corrupt the people,
不可使亲治； and therefore cannot be trusted to govern.
立命而怠事， He believes in fate and will neglect his duty,
不可使守职； therefore be cannot be given an office.
宗丧循哀，He lays emphasis on mourning, and makes much of grief,
不可使慈民； therefore he cannot be made to take care of the people.
机服勉容， He will be formal in dress and affected in manners,
不可使导众。 therefore he cannot lead the multitudes.
孔丘盛容修饰以蛊世， Kong Qiu dresses elaborately and puts on adornments to mislead the people,
弦歌鼓舞以聚徒， promotes music and dancing to attract the multitudes,
繁登降之礼以示仪， performs elaborate ceremonies of going up and coming down the steps,
务趋翔之节以观众， and practises the etiquette of rushing and soaring to dazzle the multitudes.
博学不可使议世， With all his extensive learning he cannot plan for the world;
劳思不可
以		 with all his laborious thought he cannot help the people.
补民1，
絫寿不能尽其学， A whole lifetime cannot exhaust his learning;
当年不能行其礼， the grown man cannot observe his ceremonies;
积财不能赡其乐， and even the wealthy cannot enjoy his music.
繁饰邪术以营世君， He elaborates and adorns his improper ways to keep the lords busy;
盛为声乐以淫遇民， he profusely furnishes sounds and music to corrupt the people.
其道不可以期世， His principles cannot instruct the world;
其学不可以导众。 his learning cannot lead the multitudes.
今君封之，Now you, my lord, commission him
以利齐俗， to change the customs of Qi.
非所以导国先众。” It really is not the way to lead a country and bring forward the multitudes."
公曰：2
“善！”The Lord said: "This is well."
于是
厚其		Thereupon the Lord gave him valuable gifts
3礼，
留其封， but retained the commission,
敬见而不问其道。 received him with respect but did not inquire into his teaching.
孔丘乃恚， Kong Qiu became angry,
怒于景公与晏子， angry with Lord Jing and Yanzi.
乃树鸱夷子皮于田常之门，So, he placed Chi Yi Ze Pi in the following of Tian Chang,
告南郭惠子以所欲为， and communicated his plans to Hui-tzu of the South City.
归于鲁。 Then he returned to Lu.
有顷， Before long,
闲齐将伐鲁， Qi desired to attack Lu.
告子贡曰： He remarked to Zi Gong:
“赐乎！"Oh, Ci,
举大事于今之时矣！” now is the time to do the great deed."
乃遣子贡之齐， Thereupon he sent Zi Gong to Qi and,
因南郭惠子以见田常，through the introduction of Huizi of the South City, saw Tian Chang.
劝之伐吴， Zi Gong persuaded him to attack Wu (instead of Lu).
以教高、国、鲍、晏，He also told Gao Guo Bao Yan
使毋得害田常之乱， not to interfere with Tian Chang's insurrection.
劝越伐吴。 Then he went on and persuaded Yue to attack Wu.
三年之内， For three years,
齐、吴破国之难， both Qi and Wu were threatened with ruin.
伏尸以言术数。 The bodies of those killed amounted to hundreds of thousands.
孔丘之诛也。And this was the revenge of Kong Qiu.
