侍坐于长者，When (going to) sit in attendance on an elder,
屦不上于堂， (a visitor) should not go up to the hall with his shoes on,
解屦不敢当阶。 nor should he presume to take them off in front of the Steps.
就屦，(When any single visitor is leaving), he will go to his shoes,
跪而举之， kneel down and take them up,
屏于侧。 and then move to one side.
乡长者而屦；(When the visitors retire in a body) with their faces towards the elder, (they stand) by the shoes,
跪而迁屦，which they then, kneeling, remove (some distance),
俯而纳屦。and, stooping down, put on.
