國君撫式，Where the ruler of a state lays hold of the cross-bar, and bends forward to it,
大夫下之。 a great officer will descend from his carriage.
大夫撫式， Where a great officer lays bold of the bar and bends forward,
士下之。 another officer will descend.
禮不下庶人， The rules of ceremony do not go down to the common people.
刑不上大夫。 The penal statutes do not go up to great officers.
刑人不在君側。 Men who have suffered punishment should not (be allowed to) be by the side of the ruler.
