公侯有夫人，有世婦，有妻，有妾。A duke and (one of) the feudal princes had their helpmate, and their honourable women, (which) were their mates and concubines.
夫人自稱於天子，曰老婦；The helpmate called herself, before the son of Heaven, 'the aged servant;'
自稱於諸侯，曰寡小君；and before the prince (of another state), 'the small and unworthy ruler.'
自稱於其君，曰小童。 To her own ruler she called herself 'the small maid.'
自世婦以下，自稱曰婢子。From the honourable women downwards (each member of the harem) called herself 'your handmaid.'
子於父母則自名也。To their parents, sons and daughters called themselves by their names.
