陳乾昔寢疾，When Chan Gan-xi was lying ill,
屬其兄弟， he assembled his brethren,
而命其子尊已曰：and charged his son Zun-ji, saying,
「如我死， 'When I am dead,
則必大為我棺， you must make my coffin large,
使吾二婢子夾我。」and make my two concubines lie in it with me, one on each side.'
陳乾昔死， When he died,
其子曰： his son said,
「以殉葬，'To bury the living with the dead
非禮也， is contrary to propriety;
況又同棺乎？」 how much more must it be so to bury them in the same coffin!'
弗果殺。Accordingly he did not put the two ladies to death.
