The following phrase is missing between 三年不能得 and 马已死:
涓人言于君曰：『请求之。』君遣之，三月，得千里马

Actually, 卢's 新序今注今译 has it as you do. I don't have a hard copy of the ICS at the moment. Possible that the editors of CHANT (and possibly ICS) are supplementing with 战国策 account. |
