Posted by: ciccotti (Jesse Ciccotti) | In the 1895 version of Legge's translation, the line of Chinese text in CText that reads 見且由不得亟,而況得而臣之乎?is rendered in Legge's version (p. 452) as 見且猶不得亟,而況得而臣之乎? with the difference being 由 vs. 猶. Of the several Chinese versions I have looked at, they all carry the CText version of 由. Is Legge's version an error? Or are there textual variants, and should that be mentioned in a note for this text? |
