重为轻根，静为躁君。是以君子终日行不离辎重；虽有荣观，燕处超然。奈何万乘之主，而以身轻天下？轻则失根，躁则失君。
「榮觀」當指盛觀榮景，即繁華場所。言聖人持重，不享受感官刺激所帶來的快樂，即前所謂「五色」「五音」「五味」之快樂。
「輕則失根，躁則失君」。指萬乘之主終日耽樂于榮觀，極視聽之娛，失根失位。句谓勿以身輕天下，持重才能久。
