《康熙字典》：「《法華經偈頌》，聖主天中王，迦陵頻伽聲。註，迦陵頻伽，妙音鳥也。鳥未出聲時，即發音微妙，一切天人聲皆不及，惟佛音類之，故以取況。」
也就是說，「妙音鳥」並非甚麼物之聲也，譬如天聲，人聲，鳥聲……等等。是物者還未甚麼的時候，即還未出甚麼物的時候、那種微妙聲音來的，這一微妙聲音，惟佛音類之也。
一句話，妙音鳥，微妙佛音也。
清鄭獻甫《秋夜宿慈度寺聽梵作》詩：
「初地無人行，諸天現塵表。
松風灑花露，聲臭忽已了。
寂寞不能言，鐙檠寫煙篠。
幽夢破元關，多謝妙音鳥。」
