Posted by: unclemonkey (David Knapp) | No dictionary I've consulted gives 毒 a meaning that fits in with the notion of nurturing: it's always "noxious" or "poisonous" or thereabouts. I don't have any of the old commentaries accessible now. Can anybody clear this up for me? |

Posted by: lotus_genie | Ancient Chinese will occasionally have one character substituted for another of similar pronunciation. It's a sort of ancient slang. In this case, "毒" has been substituted for "督", a word pronounced the same way by the standards of the time |
