שאל המלך ווּ את הדוכס האדיר: "מהן דרכי הצבא?"
ענה הדוכס האדיר: "מכל דרכי הצבא, אין מי שמתעלה על האחדות. בעל האחדות יכול להתקדם עצמאית ולנוע עצמאית. אמר הקיסר הצהוב: "בעל האחדות, הריהו עולה במעלות הדרך, נאדר כמו האלים." השימוש בה טמון בניצול ההזדמנות, השגתה טמונה בניצול התנאים, השלמתה טמונה בשליט. לכן המלכים החכמים הקדושים קראו לצבא "כלי משחית" והשתמשו בו רק באין ברירה. כיום מלך שָׁאנְג יודע לשרוד ואינו יודע הפסד, יודע לשמוח ואינו יודע מפלה. כי אי-שרידתו של השורד טמונה בהרהוריו בהיכחדותו, ואי-שמחתו של השמח טמונה בהרהוריו על מפלתו. כעת, לאחר שהמלך סיים להרהר במקור הדברים, מדוע ידאג מהמשך זרימתם?" |
