Discussion forum rules
Discussion on this site is to be conducted according to the following rules:
-
Attitude
Users who post messages on this website are expected to respect other users as well as their views and beliefs. Discussion and debate should take the form of criticism of ideas and not of individuals. Tolerance of different views is to be a precondition of participating in this discussion forum.
-
Relevance
Messages posted to the discussion forums should be clearly related to the topic. Messages should contain meaningful content and should not simply state 'Yes!' or 'I agree' without any other explanation. In particular, users must not post to old threads purely for the purpose of 'bumping' them to make them appear more recent.
-
Advertising
Advertising of unrelated products and services (including religious groups and viewpoints) and posting of links to such sites are strictly prohibited. Spam posts will be deleted, and accounts which post spam suspended. Users may post introductions and links to resources (e.g. books, events, societies) which may be commercial, provided that they are relevant and that such posts are proportional - post a link to the contents page on the site you wish to link to, not to each individual page or resource.
-
Accounts
Users may not post messages from multiple accounts. There is no need for users to register using their real names, but users may not intentionally impersonate other people.
-
Copyright
Users must respect copyright law and the intellectual property rights of others. Instead of copying and pasting large amounts of information from other websites, a brief explanation together with a link to the original source may be more appropriate.
Clearly these rules are not exhaustive; what is acceptable on these forums is largely governed by common sense. Rules will be updated and continued use of the forums implies acceptance of the conditions. The CTP reserves the right to remove and edit messages and accounts for any reason.
